Banting Beggar Chicken Review

I have not been posting on this page as me and my boyfriend was busy with lots of adult stuff. Sh*t gets real when you get your house keys and you are clueless where to start from for your renovation. Though there were tons of choices to choose from, it didn't helped since I am a fickle minded person who just have trouble making a choice. Anyway, my family and I managed to explore Banting a little and try out the famous beggar chicken as recommended by Axian.  The day was scorching hot and it did not make me any happier.

The restaurant can be easily missed if you are not observant as there were no proper signboards. If you are heading towards Bukit Jugra, the restaurant will be on your left. Do not forget to make reservations at least 2 days in advance as they do not entertain walk-ins.

Well I guess there is their painted signboard in Chinese wordings. Not very practical huh? Maybe it is because they know they are famous so they do not need to spend on a pretty signboard.

You  will notice there is a wooden shack near the dining area. This is the place where they cook the chicken.

Look closely and you will notice a number of chickens wrapped up inside here. It actually smells really good inside the restaurant which made me hungry.
So here we have the beggar chicken, their star dish. Sorry to disappoint you but I fail to see why they are so famous. No doubt the chicken is really tender but the taste is just so-so. I won't be coming back here for it especially when the price is considered on the high side.

The glutinous rice is also supposed to be their specialty but it was another disappointment for me. The rice was on the hard side and the taste was also just alright. But the size of this glutinous rice is huge!

This longevity soup was also recommended when we called them up. This soup is the only dish I sort of enjoyed here. You can taste the herbs really well and the chicken is tender. Only problem is  that it does not feel good drinking soup in the hot weather.

We also take away the beggar's pig leg for dinner that night. I would say the pig leg actually taste better than the beggar's chicken.

If you happened to visit Banting/Bukit Jugra, no harm trying out this place but I would strongly suggest not to coming all the way to Bukit Jugra just to try this restaurant out.
